It looks like the fat lady has sung.
The Main Street Arena has been sold. According to a story by NBC29 it was purchased by Taliaferro Junction, LLC, and Jaffray Woodriff for $5.7M. Mark Brown was asking $6.5M. He originally purchased the arena for about $3 million in 2010. So I’d say it was a pretty sweet deal for Mark and the other owners.
According to the Charlottesville City Assessor’s online records, the Main Street Arena’s 2017 total assessed value is $5,795,845. In 2016 it was assessed at $4,000,500. So that’s a hefty increase of $1,795,345 in just one short year.
When Will Rink Close?
Construction is expected to get underway in the spring of 2018. So that means hockey will continue until the end of the spring 2017 season, and it is likely to return in the fall for one final season.
New Rink in the Future
A press release from Payne, Ross & Associates says that the new owners plan to donate materials and equipment to a business venture seeking to get a new ice skating park up and running in a new location. They don’t state who that business venture is or where a new rink might be located. Any guesses?
